rave
1. (Rave) (1981↑, 549↓)
1) n. any gathering of people centered around listening to and dancing to electronic music, as played by a set of live djs. Originated in 1989 in the UK as underground, often illegal gatherings in abandoned warehouses. Often characterized by the positive, psychedelic atmosphere, influnced often (but not always) by drugs and casual sex. 2) v. to dance in a style characteristic of dancers at raves, synonymous with fluid, liquid

1) There is this awesome rave tomorrow night in a warehouse downtown; all these famous djs will be playing 2) Some clubbers don't like it when I rave to hip-hop music ;-)

2. (Rave) (963↑, 386↓)
[n.] An organized underground party involving music and dancing. Raves typically involve one or more DJs playing electronic dance music such as techno, trance, breakbeat, jungle, and ambient. Usually starting after dusk and lasting through 'til dawn, drug use at raves often runs rampant; particularly the use of Ecstasy and LSD. Raves can vary greatly in size and scope, hosting from dozens to thousands of guests, and lasting from one night to a few days. Classically, ravers have maintained a strong community spirit and have promoted an ideal called PLUR, an acronym for Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. These values have unfortunately faded somewhat since the onset of a newer generation of ravers unfamiliar with these concepts so elemental to the original scene.

Guys, we went to a rave last night, right? Cause, I'm not sure WHAT we did there, but I don't remember a thing.

An underground party in which electronic music is played, dancing occurs in a very free-form fashion. The dress of the partygoers is quite unrestrained. It is rumoured that there is ALWAYS drug use involved, but this is not ALWAYS correct. There are straight-edge ravers who don't take part in drug use. Like me.

A gathering with different people from all over the world, it could be held in the forest, desert, or in a warehouse. Starts in the night hours and can last until the next morning. Upon entering the "rave" it becomes a whole different world with all the light effects, different generes of music being spun by local and world famous dj's (i.e Hardcore, Jungle,DrumnBass, House,Trance, any type of electornic music). Speakers that will blow you away, but gives off a vibration that makes you connect with the music. People are able to be free and open without being judged. Also, has dancers that are some of the best and some who march to to the beat of their own drum. Can be known for a place of drugs( acid, extacy, ketamine, weed) and sexual behavoiar. But is also known as a place of peace, the music is what brings us together. One must have an open mind to attend a rave. Once was a scene that was "underground", but since then has faded due to the new generation of kids who do not understand the music and only the drugs.

11. (Rave) (74↑, 50↓)
A dance party where electronic music is the mainstay, often but not always underground, often characterized also by drug use (primarily LSD and X)and very casual sex, but again, not always. In its truest form, a rave is a communal unity event that provides a visceral outlet for pent up emotion, replacing it with positive feeling and fraternity, for which drugs and sex are not strictly necessary. Recently, in certain locales, a new philosophy of raving has developed, known as "Rave or Die," a devotion to raving itself, rather than a counterculture or underground movement, raving as a trancendental experience to unite one soul with another through a heavy beat, and a determination to carry the same positive atmosphere, and freedom of motion and action throughout one's life. "The heartbeat will never fade, the party will never end\! I am a Raver, and this is my Manifesto\! RAVE OR DIE\!"

"Yeah, I went to a rave the other night." "Never really saw the point of those" "Think twenty odd women who took off their shirts and then jumped up and down to sweet techno music." "Man, you suck."

20. (Rave) (7↑, 16↓)
1. A primitive and non-descript word used to connotate the blossoming mass interest in the undeground scene of electronic music, drugs, and parties. The word came to full-flower in the late 1990's, but took a turn for the worst in the early 2000's. By then, a wave of drug overdoses, emergencies, and public fear cast the word into mainstream television use as more and more reporters, entirely disconnected with the culture, beat it to death in the daily news. This ignorance was greatly exemplified by adding a hypen and the word "party" to "rave", which was totally unnecessary, but kept the aging, elderly people who vote good and scared, until they had almost completely eliminated any event that ran over a single day. 2. Directly after the word "rave" was thrown on the trash heap of words that cool people no longer said, it remained unused for a period of several years. A re-surfacing of the word eventually took place, with it now being used as a symbolic word, tinged with sarcasm, to mean, roughly, "beat," or "beaten to death." The new use is characterized by a completely lack of enthusiasm.

1. Tom Brokaw- "Do you know what your child is up to? Many go to all-night rave-parties and take ecxtasy, a drug known to cause brain damage in rats." 2. Friend \#1: What'd you do last night? Friend \#2: My homework. Friend \#1: "Rave."

26. (rave) (25↑, 42↓)
as a verb, this word has its origins in late latin, ravo, ravere, ravivi, ravisus, and meant 'a bathhouse party' an event now reffred to as an orgy. this ancient event consisted of people lying around naked, eating lots of food, drinking plenty of wine, and freely fucking anyone you wanted. there were also often exotic dark skinned poeples brought in to play an interesting blend of drums and to dance. these parties were abandoned durring the dark ages, and, though it is not documented, it is beleived that during the renaissance, these events were once again a part of a towns night life. it is truly amazing how little these events have changed over the past 2 millenia.

People who were too young to attend rave parties ten years ago go around wearing wide-leg pants and sporting all kinds of facial piercings trying to emulate the ravers of the early-to-mid 1990s.
